President Reagan's tomb is nice, albeit humble. The headstone itself is blocked by a brass railing, as it should be. To the left of the tomb is another bench seat that has a small garden behind it, courtesy of Reagan friends George & Mrs. Abbott, along with a host of others. The grounds are absolutely beautiful to stroll around and the mountain views are amazing! There are benches to sit on ... and in the back near his grave is a piece of the Berlin Wall. I think even Democrats would love the historical value of the place. ^_^ To the right of the tomb is a large circular feature of grass + a walkway, as well as a bust of the president and a piece of the Berlin Wall. To the far, far right is an F-14 Navy fighter jet, of which I thought was really, really cool. Because,In contrast, visiting and walking through Air Force one is an inspiring highlight by all means of the imagination and the plane does not disappoint. It is showcased in the most fantastic of ways and brought goosebumps to my arm when I first laid my eyes on it.
One of the darkest part of the Reagan story is the assassination attempt and this is presented in a jarring and dramatic fashion. The little ones were truly affected at this part and it does remind the visitor that the attack put his life in real jeopardy and that others risked and lost so much in their duty to protect the Commander in Chief.
And then they do have an interesting display which shows the actual suit that was cut off Reagan at the hospital after he was shot. You can see the bullet hole circled. That was really something to see! The exhibit also features notes he wrote to family members in the hospital when he couldn't talk such as 'surprisingly, not feeling hungry.
Final, they have his suit from the 'Tear down this wall' speech as well as a copy of his speech where you can see his hand written notes, including a unique system he used for phrasing (which I have since adopted in my public speaking). You see his Cowboy hat and saddle and boots. There was also a baseball exhibit featuring Babe Ruth's fur coat, travel trunk, silk robe, etc. Many game worn uniforms (mostly from the Brookyln Dodgers) and a Honus Wagner baseball card, which is the most valuable card.
I very enjoy this free trip,as much as possible know lots of information about American President. Sometimes as a Chinese know different culture is a very joyful thing.
